Matthew Cozby, DDS
I was born and raised in Anaconda, Montana and attended college in Oregon at Corban University where I received my B.A. in Health Science. I received my DDS from Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry and entered active duty in the U.S. Army as a dentist in 2008. I completed a residency in general dentistry at Fort Carson, Colorado and went on to complete the advanced clinical practice program at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. I was able to expand my knowledge of dentistry and also have a lot of fun jumping out of airplanes and teaching special operation medics when I was attached to 5th Group Special Forces. I deployed to Iraq in 2010. We moved to Fircrest, Washington in 2012 and I practiced at Joint Base Lewis McChord for 5 years. My lovely bride Rachel and I have 3 daughters. I passed the Academy of General Dentistry Fellowship exam in the spring of 2017 and received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in June of 2017. I’m looking forward to meeting you!

I got a late start in life attending dental school at age 46. It was the best career move I made. I had been on the faculty in the Department of Anatomy at two medical schools prior, when the opportunity to become a dentist confronted me. I wasted no time and four years later I was a General Dentist. I didn’t know anything. However, that is why they call it a dental ‘practice’. I remained on the Anatomy faculty at Indiana University until the right opportunity arose and purchased a practice in Indianapolis. Ten years later, I sold the practice and took a position as a civilian dentist in Bamberg, Germany working for the Army. After a period, I returned to America and was fortunate to be offered a position at JBLM. For the next fourteen years I worked as a civilian dentist before retirement. That wouldn’t last long. Dr. Cozby and I shared an office on base while he was a Major in the Army Dental Corp. Being a dentist in the Army was an honor to serve so many soldiers over the years. I was surrounded by military dentists with years of experience in their specialty making it an amazing learning experience. I was able to seek advice whenever I needed it and this then becomes a true learning environment doing the best we can for our patients. I learned a lot and continue that tradition today. When Dr. Cozby asked me to work one or two days a week, I was thrilled to return to a profession I love. I live in Dupont with my lovely wife, Marina and our toy poodle. It is a pleasure to work with Dr. Cozby and caring staff to meet the dental needs of this community with pride and passion.
